Transformational work, or inner work as I often refer to it, is our path to making the unconscious conscious. This work takes us on a powerful healing journey back to our true self, using awareness to expose the unconscious ego programming holding us back.
The chart below outlines the process of internal imbalance and conflict created by the ego, and how this work helps us return to our natural states of balance and true freedom.
The true self is who we are at birth and at our core. Our true self is naturally whole and complete, and free from all external attachments and needs.
It’s our Truth, our state of being and balance, and our place of true freedom.
As we’re conditioned by life and experiences, the ego is created by the mind. It’s not who we are, but because of how strong and powerful it can become, we often believe it is.
To gain control, the ego tries to falsely convince us we aren’t whole or complete, and that we need something external to achieve happiness, success, love, or freedom.
The more we try to satisfy the ego’s needs, the bigger and stronger it gets. It then uses that power to pull us away from our true self and gain more control.
Because our true self is our natural state of balance, whenever we are pulled away from it we are out of balance.
As our internal imbalance grows, both selves pull harder (our true self to get us back, our ego to maintain control), and internal conflict develops.
This internal conflict shows up as unrest, frustration, anxiety, needing, and feeling unfulfilled or trapped. It’s like living with a medium-grade fever – it’s exhausting and unsustainable.
And it’s why even when we’ve achieved incredible success we feel off or like something is missing. As long as the ego is in control we’ll always be out of balance, and we’ll always have conflict.
No matter who we are or how much we achieve.
Once we’ve returned to our true self, we’re back in a place of balance and true freedom. This creates a life of being and flow where fulfillment and abundance come to us naturally.
To resolve internal conflict, we must restore internal balance. To restore internal balance, we must return to our true self. Inner work takes us on a powerful healing journey inward, using awareness to release the ego’s control.

It’s important to note, this work isn’t about a linear path or an end goal. I use charts like this as part of the teaching component to help provide a 30,000 ft view of what’s happening inside us, but the focus isn’t on a specific achievement (that would pull us back into ego).
Getting back to our true self happens organically as we do this work. Each new awareness we create takes us one step closer to who we were before the ego programming began, while simultaneously creating powerful real-time change, growth, and impact.
